The Traful River

The fabled Traful River runs through a breathtaking valley of incredible wind and water sculpted rock spires, minarets and chimneys with privileged views of the crystal clear Lake Traful and its backdrop of the white-capped Andes and lush forests.

The Lodge

Overlooking the valley, the traditional wood and stone built houses are set in beautifully landscaped gardens with mature trees, shrubs and colorful borders. There are several outside seating areas to enjoy a drink before lunch or to watch the sunset.

In the main house, the sun-lounge, bar, living-room and dining-room with their fireplaces were designed to create a relaxed yet refined atmosphere for guests. Each of the four individually decorated twin/double bedrooms has in-suite facilities and heating. In an adjacent house, there are two other bedrooms with in-suite bathrooms.

The Fishing

The Traful is an exclusively catch and release fly-fishing river. At the beginning of the season the river runs high and fast with the level dropping in December but usually with fast water till the beginning or middle of January (depending on weather conditions, especially the winter snows). It then runs slow until the first Autumn rains.

The Traful is a sizable mountain river of crystal-clear water varying in width from 60 to 90 feet with rapids and pools throughout its 10-mile course. It is home to Rainbow and Brown Trout and landlocked Salmon. Although the average size of the fish is around 20 to 23 in for trout and 22 to 24 in for Salmon, it is not uncommon to catch 28 in Salmon and 30 in Rainbows and Browns.

View Sample Itinerary

Though it may not be a long river, it has a lake on each end. This allows for the possibility of catching big fish anytime, this being one of its strongest features. Salmon runs are most prevalent early and late in the season, while the river offers fine fishing for those big Browns and Rainbows all season long with evening hatches that can provide exceptional dry-fly fishing.

That’s the Traful: a river of surprises, a river with character, a beautiful river running through unusual rock formations.

Location

Located only 1.5 hours from the Bariloche airport in the Nahuel Huapi National Park, Arroyo Verde is conveniently located for a visit to another regional lodge such as Tipiliuke or San Huberto, which is a great add-on for your stay here.
